About Johnston Hall & Eva Johnston

Johnston Hall today is the home of 300 women as well as the Eva Js dining hall. Originally called "Women's Hall A," in 1951 it was renamed in honor of Eva Johnston. In the coming academic year, it will be one of the two remaining single-gender residence halls.

After graduating in 1892, Eva Johnston became an Associate Professor of Latin at Mizzou in 1899. In 1921, she was named the first Advisor to Women and then the Dean of Women in 1923. All her years of tenure were served as a mentor to women until she retired in 1933. Later, in 1951, Johnston Hall was renamed in her honor.
